Dr. Birrer is moving from Mass General Cancer Center to become the head of the Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Alabama in Birmingham (UAB) as of August 1, 2017. Dr. Birrer remains dedicated to the GCS Project and will launch a GCS Clinic devoted to helping women with gynecological carcinosarcoma obtain the best treatment and access to doctors who are experts in this rare cancer. Once the clinic is established, GCS patients will be able to be seen in Birmingham.
Until the GCS Clinic opens, Dr. Birrer is making arrangements to see patients at Mass General Cancer Center. The dates will be reported once the dates are finalized. More information will be provided as we manage through this transition period.
Now the GCS Project will have 2 major Cancer Centers working to find a cure for us. These centers will attract the interest of other cancer centers and new opportunities for scientific collaboration and innovation.
