Is The GCS Project a 501C3?

Many people have asked if The GCS Project is a 501C3. I would like to take a few minutes to explain our status.

  • The Gynecologic Carcinosarcoma (GCS) Fund is a 501C3 and is a restricted fund at Mass General Hospital Cancer Center that is providing the funding for this research.
  • The GCS Project is this website which is dedicated to providing help and hope to women with GYN Carsinosarcoma. We are not currently a 501C3.

The Gynecologic Carcinosarcoma (GCS) Fund at Mass General

The Gynecologic Carcinosarcoma (GCS) Fund at Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center (MGH) is a 5013C. All donations go into this research fund. The fund is restricted to research being conducted in the Birrer Lab to find a cure for Carcinosarcoma (also known as GCS or MMMT). Your donation can only be used for this research. No portion of your donation goes anywhere but towards finding a cure or treatment for Carcinosarcoma.

If you make a donation through our donation page, you are directed to the Mass General Donation Website. The donation goes directly into the restricted fund. You will receive a letter of acknowledgement from Mass General. It is tax deductible.

The GCS Project – this website

The GCS Project is this website and is self funded by me and my family. It is comprised of many volunteers who contribute their time and energy to building a resource for women with GYN Carcinosarcoma. No portion of the donation is directed towards The GCS Project. Your entire donation goes to the Gynecologic Carcinosarcoma (GCS) Research Fund at MGH.

We do receive donation notifications from MGH. I send individual thank you notes to all donors. Each donor will receive an acknowledgement from both MGH and me.

I hope this provides clarity. If you have been reluctant to donate because of the 5013C status, please contact Heidi Bergermeyer, Senior Development Officer at Mass General. Heidi can be reached at (617) 643-7160.
