I was diagnosed in November 2017 with high grade ovarian: 70% endometrioid adenocarcinoma, FIGO grade 3, 25% serous, high grade, 5% clear cell. This is from my surgical pathology report. Grade 2c. Am currently receiving chemo with carboplatin and taxol.
I have called and faxed records to Dr Birrer in Birmingham asking to see him for a consultation/second opinion. So far, no luck with this, have left several messages with Jeannette.
Diane, are you in touch with him or know if he’s seeing patients there yet? If not, do you suggest anyone else? I live in Houston, had surgery by a GYN oncologist and chemo by Kelsey-Seybold, my Medicare provider. I’m an RN and feel confident that my care most likely wouldn’t be different at MD Anderson.
Any guidance or advice? Thanks!
ADDENDUM I have an appointment with Dr Birrer scheduled for March 6
I saw Dr. Michael Birrer on Tuesday for a second opinion. He said I am on the right chemo for now and to finish the next 9 weeks then have repeat scans, etc. He was very nice and gave me hope. Thank you, Diane, for recommending him
Thanks for your update. I am currently being treated with ifosfamide after the carboplatin/taxol did not work. ( i use MD Anderson protocol at a satellite location in Camden NJ) The ifos is working now but the treatment cannot be continued for too long. I have been thinking about getting an appointment with Dr Birrir. My insurance will not cover this so i need to consider this. From Diane’s story, she mentioned that the doc put her on avastin and cytosine AND had a clinical trial underway Did you get any of this info during your appt with him?
sincerely Linda denne
